About Sakhi Foundation
A record, not a rumour.
Sakhi (सखी) means a woman’s close friend. This is a free, ad-free public record. Its job is to point at the system — courts, police, parties, politicians — and ask for the numbers, so that no survivor is ever the one on trial.

Founder, Sakhi Foundation
Sakhi exists so the ones nobody counted can finally be counted — and so the people who are supposed to count them can be asked why they didn’t.

The mark
An eye that stays open.
A witness. Pink for refusal — India’s protest colour, from the Gulabi Gang to the 2009 Pink Chaddi campaign. Amber for the one thing in the frame that is looking straight back. Together: the system is being watched, and the ones nobody counted are being seen.
Method: how we handle numbers
- Every figure links to its source — NCRB (Crime in India 2023, released 30 Sep 2025), NFHS-5, ADR/MyNeta, Law Ministry replies. All sit in one file,
public/data/facts.json. - We never write “convicted” unless a court record says so. Cases in the Neta Map are declared, pending allegations from sworn affidavits.
- “Never counted” numbers are self-reported and unverified. They show a gap in the official count; they do not replace it.
- The 17:43 clock is an average, from 29,670 rapes registered in 2023 (NCRB). A pace, not a live feed. Likewise “every 70 seconds” is 4,48,211 crimes against women ÷ a year.
- Conviction rate: roughly 1 in 4 trials that finish (about 27% in 2022, about 24% in 2023 by analyses of NCRB tables). Check NCRB’s tables when quoting precisely.
- Corrections: spot an error? Open an issue on the project’s GitHub repository. We fix it and date the correction.
- What we won’t host: footage of assaults, leaked material, or names of survivors or unconvicted accused. It re-victimises people and breaks the law (BNS s.72).
Privacy: exactly what is stored
- When you tap “count me”: one number goes up by one. Nothing else.
- When you add details: only the categories you chose (type of violence, year, state, who you told, what the police did, why it stayed uncounted, a category for who, an age band) and your words if you wrote any. Only the date, never the time.
- Not stored: your name, phone, email, IP address, device, location, cookies, or any account. No trackers, no analytics, no third-party scripts, no third-party fonts.
- A scrambled, expiring code made from your network address is used for a single day to stop spam. It cannot be reversed and is never saved with your report.
- Contribute forms (a case link, or a correction): the link and text you send are stored for a moderator. The optional contact line is read only by the moderator and never published.
- Words you write are reviewed by a person. Names, numbers, links and anything identifying are refused or removed. Nothing is published without your tick-box consent.
